Cette reconnaissance nouvelle des perspectives surréalistes de Welty permet une appréciation originale de “The Winds” ainsi que de “A Sketching Trip,” une nouvelle inédite. Cet article démontre qu’au sein de l’univers surréaliste, Ford, Cornell et Welty participent d’une constellation d’artistes et d’écrivains qui se connaissaient et s’appréciaient les uns les autres sans pour autant se retrouver au sein d’un mouvement clairement établi. Ford transmit alors la lettre à Cornell, permettant ainsi l’émergence d’une correspondance croisée entre les trois auteurs, attestant de l’existence d’un réseau relationnel et artistique particulier et original. Suite à sa lecture de View : Americana Fantastica, qui contenait un texte et un photomontage de Joseph Cornell, Welty a fait parvenir à Ford une lettre le félicitant pour cette publication. L’exploitation des archives démontre en effet que Welty lisait le magazine View publié par Charles Henri Ford, son compatriote du Mississippi qu’elle s’est également imprégnée de l’art de Dalí, Picasso, Miró, De Chirico, Magritte, et Tchelitchev, et a rédigé des nouvelles illustrant les dogmes surréalistes de la “toute-puissance du rêve” et du “jeu désintéressé de la pensée” tels que formulés par André Breton. Apparently he has already given her up for being dead. I thought the night scenes in "Intruder in The Dust" were more chilling than anything in "Blair Witch Project".
Other Mississippi films are "Oh, Brother, Where ARt Thou?" and "Intruder IN The Dust" as well as "Sounder" filmed in Louisiana. Filmed in Mississippi, the lush countryside is spectacular in a way Hollywood could never recreate, from open fields to the river dragging to the dirt roads. The husband and his friend, Virgil (Tim Ransom), begin dragging the river for her body and uncover a large bounty of fish in the process, hence the title the net they used. It is the story of a wife (Sedgwick) who feels her husband (Tubb) is ignoring her, but not in an adulterous way, so she leaves a note threatening suicide by jumping in the river. This Eudora WElty story was set in the '30's or '40's of Mississippi and the director was Wiggins, Mississippi native Anthony Hererra.
